West and Franklin will accept donations beginning Monday and running through Nov. 20. Suggestions for donations include:
♦ For soldiers: Essentials like shampoo, deodorant, lip balm, sunscreen, vitamins, lotions, gum, mouth wash, tissue packets and white or green socks; and food such as trail mix, dried fruit, seasoning salt, protein bars, granola bars and cereal bars. Other suggestions include DVDs, magazines, playing cards, paperback books, word or number games and crossword puzzles.
♦ For Iraqi schoolchildren: Notebooks, colored pencils (not crayons), plain folders with pockets, loose-leaf paper, safety scissors, rulers, pencil sharpeners, large erasers, pencil pouches and pencils. Donations should not contain any printed political or religious messages.
In addition to the supply drive, organizers will host a card-making event on Wednesday, which is Veterans Day, at West High School, 966 Shawano Ave. Cards will be shipped with the donation kits and distributed to soldiers in Iraq. The event runs from 3-6 p.m., and Culver’s will provide frozen custard for attendees.
